This is fearless dancing!

Dear Friends!

It's going to be a spectacular evening when BWDC presents Joshua Beamish's solo show, LONE WOLF. You will not believe what a spectacular dancer he is! It just pours out of him. Josh is originally an Edmonton boy. Now he's making a huge splash in London and New York, not bad!

The most exciting season in our 39 year history!

Dear Friends!

It's the end of summer and the Brian Webb Dance Company is thrilled to be presenting its most exciting season in its 39 year history. At the moment, I am working on two new dances; a solo created for one of Edmonton's most outrageously talented dancers, Tony Olivares, that will premiere during Prairie Dance Circuit (September 22 & 23); and a collaboration with film maker Kyle Armstrong, and composer Mark Templeton, to be presented next summer. The new work has a theme of place and spiritual connection to the land. Both Kyle and I were brought up on the prairie just above Drumheller. We've been exploring old 'hunting' grounds, so to speak, which is shockingly moving.

Our 39th Season - Here We Go!

Dear Friends!

In a couple of weeks you'll be seeing our 2017/2018 season brochure. It's early this year, and there is a reason for that!

We're thrilled to be presenting BETROFFENHEIT by Kidd Pivot and The Electric Company. This will be its 3rd world tour, and I couldn't be more excited that it's part of our season. You may have heard it just won the Olivier Award in London for 'Best New Dance Production.' It's an amazing intersection between dance and theatre, unleashed from the imaginations of Crystal Pite and Jonathan Young.

An Amazing Dance Experience!

Happy Wednesday Friends!

I was in Vancouver over the weekend and saw two performances of Wen Wei Wang's new dance DIALOGUE. It is absolutely A. M. A. Z. I. N. G! Both performances I saw got huge standing ovations.

Of course, it always comes down to the dancing. DIALOGUE's ensemble of Ralph Escamillan, Arash Kapour, Tyler Layton-Olson, Nicholas Lydiate and Alex Tam were breathtaking. Their dancing was powerful, and all of them revealed themselves as free individuals.

Recent Performances Wow!

Dear Friends,

I hope you had a great long weekend. I wanted to let you know about a few performances I had a chance to check out a couple weeks ago.

First, I saw Alberta Ballet's Our Canada featuring the music of Gordon Lightfoot. This dance made me so proud to be an Alberta Dance artist. I thought the dancing was spectacular and Jean Grand Maitre captured a celebration of Canadian identity in a unique and moving way.

BWDC's first ever Pop Up Art Auction

Dear Friends,

I'd like to extend a huge thank you to all of the artists who donated work to BWDC's first ever Pop Up Art Auction. Your generosity is hugely appreciated. We initiated a much less formal event this year and it was really successful. I'm looking forward to developing its potential. Special thanks to Jean Greenough and Frank, for the huge effort they put into securing donations. Of course, thank you to those who attended - I hope you had a great time, I did!

Our season finished with provocative performances by Robin Poitras and Rober Racine in The Dresswriter. These two celebrated artists offered a highly skilled intersection between dance and performance. Their attention to detail and content was so strong. With their performances, our 38th season is complete.

37th Annual Art Auction

Edmonton's Hippest Evening of Contemporary Art

Dear Friends,

The 37th Annual Brian Webb Dance Company Art Auction is just around the corner at our new location, the Sutton Place Hotel. This annual event has become an important part of our success. It has allowed us to build a strong relationship with the visual art community in Edmonton and has ultimately led to collaborations between BWDC and artists like Blair Brennan, Lyndal Osborne and Gary James Joynes. This has really been exciting for the Company. This year, new artists like Marilene Oliver have joined our group of donating artists.

Happy New Year dance Enthusiasts!

Brian Webb Dance Company is very excited to welcome 2017 with two performances of Van Grimde Corps Secrets' Symphonie 5.1. This is the second time we've presented this very engaging company. The first was two summers ago for The Body In Question[s]2.  This exhibition was an amazing amalgamation of the performing body, visual arts and new technologies. I am excited to say that their new work, Symphonie 5.1, takes the intersection of live performance and contemporary technologies to an even higher level!
